Another New Toy!!!
Look what walked in the door this afternoon. Ive been chasing this rifle for several years. Today I finally got it! A little history, this was bought new along with a drum magazine by Bruce, the sheriff of my county about 20 years ago. It lived in his office until he lost an election. Then it lived at his house. I had seen it on several occasions and I wanted it. Two years ago, Bruce, the ex-sheriff, now out of work and living on his income from a couple of rental properties, needed some extra cash (he lost some tenants) so he came to the fleamarket. One of the items he was selling was his AK. I was walking the market with a friend of mine. The ex-sheriff was just beginning to set up for the day. Richard, my friend saw it first as Bruce was taking it out of his truck. Richard walked (more like trotted) up and said how much ya gotta have? Bruce replied $350. With no hesitation Richard whips out $350, grabs the rifle and says thanks. As we were walking away I told Richard about knowing that rifle and that I want it. He said when I get tired of it youll have first shot at buying it. Today Richard saw a lever gun in 45/70 at the pawn shop. He really likes the old cowboy guns. He put a deposit down then called me. He asked if I still wanted the AK. Of course I said YES. He asked if $400 was OK. Again I said YES (these sell today for $1300+ at gunbroker.com). He was at my shop 20 minutes later.
This is a very early import (pre-ban). Its marked Min Shan Factory Made in China. And the importer is Clayco Sports, Clay Cntr, KS according to the serial number its the second one, number two, that Clayco sold. Im willing to bet in its lifetime it has not had more than 500 rounds put through it. Its still like brand new. This ones a keeper, it is now my personal AK. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...37879/AK-2.jpg |

About damned time you got around to getting an AK! :applause_
Seriously, I'll second Aurum_AG - great score, and nice story. Thanks for sharing! |
Re: Another New Toy!!!
I like that one much better than your last score mtn..:ok:
Great deal! |
Re: Another New Toy!!!
Don't know much about ak's, being in Canada. What type of sight arrangement is on those. Are they accurate?/ short/long range? When you practice with them, do you practice assault type action (fast firing) or more like sniper practice? Just curious. We have no access to assault weapons, only hunting longarms. tia
Btw, sounds like a steal mm. Congrats. |

My favorite kind of accurate... Accuracy by VOLUME... |
Re: Another New Toy!!!
They are accurate enough to knock soda cans off a fence post from 50 yards with a single round every time all day long. Anything farther than that and you just keep pulling the trigger while taking note of the small explosions created by the misses.

Re: Another New Toy!!!
mtnman,
Congratulations as well. I have the fixed-stock version bought May, 1985. It came in a styrofoam inletted box with three 30 round magazines, multiple mag clamp, bayonet, oiler, sling and instruction manual. Still have it all, fired fewer than 300 rounds. If you don't have an instruction manual, Gunmanuals.net has a .pdf available for download. Take care, Mod1 |
